GRC researches dietary needs of rehabilitated eastern box turtle.
Herpetological Research

The Georgia Reptile Conservancy is committed to sound scientific research. While the GRC is actively involved in some original research methodologies, for the most part, we support the efforts of other scientific investigators.

We are actively involved with researchers at the University of Georgia, Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). We also serve as liaison between researchers and interested students and/or volunteers.

Some of our current research interests include:

 • Forging behavior in the southern copperhead,
 Agkistrodon contortrix.
 • Behavioral ecology and social structure in crocodilian populations.

 • Conservation biology of the prehensile-tail skink,
Corucia zebrata.
 • Ecology of the Varanidae.

 • Biogeography of herpetofaunal evolution.

 • Ecology and conservation of the southern hognose snake,
Heterodon simus.
 • Long-term survival of released/rehabilitated eastern box turtles,
Terrapene carolina.
 • Conservation biology and sustainability of the Testudinidae.
 • Teaching methods for effective long-term positive attitude shifts in primary and secondary school-aged children.
